A billionaire, a comedian and a YouTube show. What happens when Nigeria’s business world meets its viral entertainment culture?

Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has accepted an invitation from Nigerian content creator Isbae U to appear on his popular YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask. The exchange has sparked conversations about how influential business leaders can connect with younger audiences.

According to reports published by Punch Newspapers, The Guardian Nigeria and Premium Times on October 20, the invitation was extended during Isbae U’s visit to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos on Monday, October 19.

How the invitation happened

Isbae U, whose real name is Adebayo Ridwan, argued that many of Dangote’s previous media appearances had taken place on platforms that younger Nigerians do not typically follow.

The comedian pointed out that young people were interested in Dangote’s businesses and investment opportunities but wanted to hear directly from the businessman through digital platforms they regularly use.

He invited Dangote to appear on Curiosity Made Me Ask, a programme known for its unconventional interviews, humorous exchanges and questions that often put guests on the spot.

Dangote responded positively, acknowledging the importance of engaging younger Nigerians.

“The future that we have is actually you, the youth,” the billionaire said, adding that older generations needed to share their experiences with younger people.

He subsequently agreed to appear on the show, saying he was willing to discuss his business journey and answer questions about how he achieved his success.

However, no official recording or release date has been announced in the reports reviewed.

Why this could be a major moment for Isbae U

Isbae U has built an audience around an interview format that combines comedy, satire and uncomfortable questions. His programme has featured prominent Nigerians, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and veteran entertainers.

Landing an interview with Dangote would bring a different dimension to the programme.

Unlike celebrity guests whose public lives often revolve around music, film or relationships, Dangote is associated with major industrial investments, manufacturing, employment and Nigeria’s economic development.

His appearance could therefore attract viewers who are interested in entrepreneurship and business, as well as those who watch the show for entertainment.

It could also demonstrate the growing influence of digital creators in securing access to people who traditionally appeared mainly on established television and business platforms.

The bigger question: Can entertainment platforms handle serious conversations?

Dangote’s acceptance raises an interesting question about the future of interviews in Nigeria.

Should prominent business leaders continue to rely primarily on traditional media, or should they embrace digital creators who understand how younger audiences consume information?

A programme such as Curiosity Made Me Ask could make business lessons more accessible to people who might not ordinarily watch a conventional corporate interview.

But there is another side to the conversation. An interview about business, wealth and economic development requires more than entertaining questions. It also needs substance, context and the opportunity to examine difficult issues.

If the interview happens, audiences may expect questions about Dangote’s journey to building his business empire, the challenges of operating in Nigeria, opportunities for young entrepreneurs and the lessons he believes upcoming business owners should learn.

Those are potential questions, not a confirmed interview agenda.

INSTACOOL ASKS: What would you ask Dangote?

Imagine having the opportunity to question one of Africa’s most prominent businessmen directly.

Would you ask how he built his fortune? Would you ask about the challenges facing young entrepreneurs? Or would you ask how ordinary Nigerians can benefit from opportunities in the country's industrial sector?

And here is the bigger debate: Is Isbae U’s platform a smart choice for a billionaire seeking to connect with young Nigerians, or would a traditional business interview provide more value?

The conversation is open.
